At Nest we aim to make our jewellery with the utmost care and attention not only to the piece itself, but also to the environment and the economy. With that in mind, both our bespoke items and our ready to wear collections are manufactured entirely in the UK with the help of highly skilled craftspeople. Each part of making process - casting the metal, setting the stones, polishing - is a skill in its own right and we are loosing many of these techniques as manufacture goes abroad. By continuing to have our jewellery made in Britain we can ensure that our clients get pieces made exactly to their specifications and are involved at every stage and that we at Nest, have full control over the quality in addition to supporting the local economy.

We aim to be similarly ethical in our sourcing of materials. Our diamonds are from conflict free sources wherever possible or we can supply vintage diamonds if preferred. The Kimberley Process (KP) is a joint governments, industry and civil society initiative to stem the flow of conflict diamonds – rough diamonds used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments. For further information please go to www.kimberleyprocess.com

The only other gemstone similarly regulated at present is Tanzanite. This is a rich purple / blue stone found only in Tanzania in the foothills of Mount Killamanjaro. This is the only source of this stone in the world and it is due to run out in 20 to 30 years. The mine is overseen by the Tanzanite Foundation who are committed to providing for the local community and the miners for the next 100 years. For further information please visit www.tanzanitefoundation.com/community.

We hope other gems will soon be regulated in this way and we are also able to provide gold from artisanal mines on request, although this will be at a premium, due to the higher mining cost.
